  • Job Summary

    The New Leader and VTK Training Specialist works to support tthe Volunteer and Service Unit structure to effectively deliver the Girl Scout Leadership experience.  He/She will work cross-functionally with other departments and with volunteers to ensure that Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta retention and business goals are met. He/she will deliver high quality customer service and technology support to new leaders and acts as the first source of advice and guidance in relation to new volunteer procedures and processes.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Accountable for creating, with the service unit team, an annual action plan which will result in meeting or exceeding goals for:
      • 1st year Troop Leader retention
      • Transitioning Troop Leader retention (Troop leaders taking on new program levels)
      • New Leader satisfaction
      • Training participation rates
      • Adoption of the Volunteer Toolkit for new leaders
      • Other goals as may be determined annually
    • Supports the annual membership spring renewal strategy for new and transitioning leaders
    • Acts as the council’s primary administrator for the VTK
    • Works with Service Unit and cross-functional teams to determine or develop innovative strategies to ensure the effective support of new troop leaders and VTK adoption
    • Provides direct support new/transitioning troop leaders
    • Develops resources for new and transitioning troop leaders, including (but not limited to) material for print and/or online delivery, webinars, and in-person support
    • Identifies the need for and provides problem solving and conflict resolution when appropriate and in a timely manner
    • Assists with council wide volunteer events (Volunteer Leadership Conference, Volunteer Appreciation Week, Service Unit Director Breakfast/meetings) and takes lead on assigned aspects of such events
    • Keeps current on all council information and messaging that is offered to volunteers; act as a broker to distribute information between council staff and volunteers as needed
    • Acts as the council subject matter expert for all items related to and impacting new and transitioning troop volunteers
    • Promotes and supports the direction of council and national initiatives, working to create buy-in and adoption among volunteers
    • Demonstrates and promotes a climate of courtesy and professionalism at all times
    • Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions
    • Maintains strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Demonstrates through action the qualities of the Girl Scout Law

    Skills & Experience


    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
    • Experience in managing multiple people and cultures, including communicating, delegating, and supporting
    • Ability to work well with people, network with staff and volunteers
    • Volunteer Experience in Girl Scouting preferred
    • Ability to adapt to changing situations
    • Subscribe to the principals of the Girl Scout Movement
    • Must successfully complete an MVR, credit and criminal background check

    • Strong oral and written communication skills. Bilingual skills an asset
    • Strong human relations skills; ability to motivate people in small and large group settings
    • Strong ability to self-manage by working independently and demonstrating a strong work ethic

    Working Conditions

    • Willingness or ability to work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends
    • Willingness to drive 60 miles or more, round trip, from home on a regular basis


    Physical Requirements

    • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
