Job Summary

The Training Manager will be responsible for providing leadership and management oversight of the training team as they work to support and retain adult volunteers.  He/She will supervise the delivery of council-wide training systems with an emphasis on customer service to volunteers. As the Training Manager you will be responsible for providing leadership in the development of innovative strategies and effective service for supporting adult membership throughout training so that the Girl Scout Leadership Experience is delivered effectively.  The incumbent works in partnership with other operational and organizational functions to support the mission, goals, and strategic priorities of the council.     

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Accountable for creating and cultivating an active and engaged corps of training volunteers
  • With the training team develop and oversee the annual action plan which will result in meeting or exceeding goals for:
    • Training satisfaction/participation
    • LMS usage
    • Knowledgeable volunteers
    • Annual strategic goals and priorities
  • Oversees the design, administration, reporting and hosting relationship to the council’s Learning Management System (Moodle)
  • Ensure the training experience is easy to access, inclusive, and productive for all volunteers throughout the council
  • Identify gaps in training and adult support through various feedback mechanisms (volunteer satisfaction surveys, new leader surveys, course evaluations, utilization reports, etc.) and create action plans to continuously improve the training of volunteers.
  • Leads council wide volunteer training initiatives; including planning large events
  • Oversees the training structure to include the recruitment, screening, selection, placement, development, training, recognition, and re-assignment of training volunteers
  • Oversee coordination and implementation of training sessions and events for individuals and groups and field training activities
  • Ensures the effective flow of communication between trainers, volunteers, and council staff; oversees the effective brokerage and access to additional support services and resources
  • Ensures council team members and volunteers are provided with essential training information to support their work
  • Provide project management for volunteer resource development (IE. Volunteer essentials, training guides, job aids, etc.)
  • Maintains training compliance with council and GSUSA policies as well as federal and state regulations while ensuring that the organizational goals are met
  • Provides data analysis through interpretation of various council system reports
  • Manages and coordinates department budget and corresponding resource allocations
  • Keeps current on all council program information and supports training and messaging that is offered to volunteers 
  • Identifies and leads the continuous improvement of volunteer training processes and infrastructure
  • Directly manages the team of training specialists dedicated to providing customer service and support for adult volunteers
  • Train staff and volunteers on the fundamentals of working with, leading and supervising training classes
  • Apply Instructional Design and Adult Learning principles utilizing ADDIE and Performance-Based Training methods for all training projects
  • Provide copy editing for all print and online materials 
  • Oversees special volunteer committees for council as needed
  • Promotes and supports the direction of council and national initiatives, working to create buy-in and adoption in within volunteer pool
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates through action the qualities of the Girl Scout Law
  • Develop and facilitate classroom-based and webinar training programs as needed

Skills & Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in learning field
  • 2-3 years’ experience with Learning/Content Management System Platforms (Moodle, Blackboard, etc.) 
  • Impeccable written grammar/communications
  • Knowledge of adult learning process and experience in educating adults
  • Experience presenting and facilitating to groups of 30 or more
  • Volunteer Experience in Girl Scouting, preferred
  • 2-5 years’ experience in directly managing multiple people and cultures
  • Subscribe to the principals of the Girl Scout Movement
  • Must successfully complete an MVR, credit and criminal background check
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license, valid auto insurance and insurable by the Council’s auto policy insurance carrier and reliable transportation.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading skills, and speaking. Bilingual skills an asset
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and volunteers
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Establish goals, monitor progress and provide coaching to enable teams to meet their goals
  • Delegate effectively without abdicating authority
  • Ensure team members are fully trained in the skills necessary for them to succeed
  • Strong ability to self-manage by working independently and demonstrating a strong work ethic

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Thorough knowledge of computer environments, including Microsoft Office applications with heavy emphasis on Access, Excel and WEB based programs.

  

Working Conditions

  • Willingness or ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
  • Willingness to drive 60 miles or more, round trip, from home on a regular basis

 Physical Requirements

  • Requires the physical mobility to sit or walk for moderate periods of time and to occasionally carry or lift objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
